What is CCFL backlight?
CCFL backlight is a fluorescent discharge light source that does not require a heated cathode. Its working principle is very similar to that of neon lights. They are composed of a transparent glass shell and two metal electrodes,one electrode injects electrons into the tube, and the other electrode attracts electrons to the other end of the tube. When electrons collide with gas molecules, UV radiation is produced, which in turn excites fluorescent materials to emit light.
CCFL backlights are widely used in backlights of various electronic devices. Compared with other types of backlights, CCFL backlights have the advantages of low power consumption, long life, and bright colors. In the past period of time, CCFL backlight was the main backlight source for LCD displays.
LED Backlight VS CCFL Backlight
LED backlight and traditional CCFL backlight are both the main backlight technologies for LCD digital screens. There are also some differences in performance between these two backlight technologies.
Compared with traditional CCFL backlights, LED backlight technology is more environmentally friendly and energy-saving. For products of the same specifications, LED backlights can save more than 40% of energy.
LED backlight has the characteristics of more uniform illumination, and its color expression is far better than CCFL backlight.Compared with LED backlights, the material of CCFL technology has material defects. The red light rendering ability of the lamp is weak, and the color mixing effect of the matched color filter is also poor.
The service life of LED backlights is longer than that of CCFL backlights. The service life of CCFL backlights and LED backlights can be as long as 100,000 hours. The service life of electronic equipment using LED backlights will be longer than that of CCFL backlights.
